July
Hydrangeas and high summer
The Garden’s bursting with colour a great time to visit with longer evenings.

July is when the garden feels at its most lush.
“It’s a popular time of year for visitors because of the weather,” says Phoebe, and it shows in the steady stream of people bringing lunch up from nearby cafés.
Hydrangeas and summer layers
“The Roses are in full flower, the Jasmine and herbaceous and woody perennials are all in bloom,” is how Phoebe sums up the summer months. Hydrangeas do particularly well up here, especially in shadier beds, where their large flower heads give weight and softness. In the mixed borders, plants like lavender, Perovskia, Nepeta, Eryngium and Gaura carry on from June, creating long ribbons of colour and movement.
What to look for
– Big hydrangea heads in the quieter, shaded corner of the garden
– The lavender, Perovskia, Nepeta, Eryngium, and Gaura bed buzzing with insect life
– A fully leafed wisteria canopy with an occasional lighter second flush of flowers
Why visit in July: perfect for a longer lunch break or an after‑work wander.
March
Spring Starts
March brings the first daffodils and narcissi. Come early to catch the garden before the crowds arrive.
April
Bulbs in Full Bloom
April is one of the best months to visit, with tulips across the beds before the canopy fills in.
May
Dramatic Wisteria
May is the month many people wait for. Blossoms drape across the pergolas and the scent fills the space.
