Winter/Spring Tableau

We start the year with The Call of Things shown from 1st Jan-28th Feb, a film by artists Vong Phaophanit and Claire Oboussier.

See the screen is filled with bare branches and cooler light, then the first signs of new growth start to appear.

The Call of Things is a moving image piece created for the Fen Court ceiling by London‑based artists Vong Phaophanit and Claire Oboussier, who have collaborated for over 25 years across film, installation and sculpture.

The Winter/Spring sequence draws on a year’s worth of filming in and around the City, including The Garden at 120, nearby parks, water and skyline, and edits it into a continuous run of frost, bare trees, cloud and the earliest hints of green. Overhead, these elements are combined into a single, imagined landscape, while a layered soundscape mixes electronic tones with field recordings such as birdsong and distant bells. Whether you look up for a few seconds or pause for longer to take in the changing scenes, it’s a thing of beauty.
